Den of the Celtic Kitsune

Knitting, restaurant reviews, social issues, and the general life and adventures of a kitsune of Celtic descent.

Name:

In Japanese folklore, kitsunes are believed to possess great intelligence, long life, and magical powers. Foremost among these is the ability to shapeshift into human form; a fox is said to learn to do this when it attains a certain age (usually a hundred years, though some tales say fifty). Kitsune usually appear in the shape of a beautiful woman, a young girl, or an old man, but almost never an elderly woman. Supernatural powers commonly attributed to the kitsune include, in addition to shapeshifting, the ability to generate fire or lightning from their tails or to breathe fire (known as kitsune-bi, literally "foxfire"), the power to manifest in dreams, the power to fly, and the ability to create illusions so elaborate as to be almost indistinguishable from reality. Some tales go further still, speaking of kitsune with the ability to bend time and space, to drive people mad, or to take such nonhuman and fantastic shapes as a tree of incredible height or a second moon in the sky. And that's just what I do every day. You should see what I do in my spare time....

Another one bites the dust

Alberto Gonzales, the nation's first Hispanic attorney general, announced his resignation Monday — ending a nasty, monthslong standoff over his honesty and competence at the helm of the Justice Department.

They're dropping like flies now as a regime change draws near. Not that I feel sorry for them in the least. They are likely skipping out a step ahead of the guillotine with a lucrative "retirement package" thanks to their good buddy the Chimp-in-Chief. Rumsfeld aka Ole Rummy, Paul Wolfowitz, Karl Rove, Alberto Gonzales, bye, BUH-bye! *waggling fingers* Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out!

Argyle Project Update

Getting close, so close. Half of the scarf has received its duplicate stitching. Half to go, a quick mattress stitch up the side and some fringe and we're done. Here's a quick idea of what it will look like finished.

Lucy Bag Project Update

Still on the needles, but only 15-20 rounds away from starting the handles. Fall term starts today and I've been wrapped up in a non-knitting project of late so this one has been on the needles a bit longer than anticipated. Finished bag should look something like this, but in white. Still have decided on mode of embellisment, but still leaning towards Elizabethan blackwork.
